Jade Dernbach has joined Derbyshire on a short-term loan from Surrey for the rest of the T20 Blast after slipping down the pecking order at The Oval.Dernbach, 35, played 58 limited-overs internationals for England between 2011 and 2014, and captained Surrey in the Blast in 2018 and 2019 but has struggled with injuries over the last two years. While Surrey are missing the Currans on England duty, and Liam Plunkett and James Taylor through injury, they have backed 23-year-old Gus Atkinson as their first-choice death bowler in recent weeks ahead of Dernbach.Dernbach did not play a first-team game in 2020 and has played only twice in this season’s Blast, conceding 40 runs in the three overs he has bowled. He is due to play for London Spirit in the Hundred later this month and will see the loan as a chance to get match-ready after so little game time.Derbyshire need to win all four of their remaining fixtures to have a realistic chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals, and have been suffering an injury crisis that has reduced them to their bare bones.Seamers Sam Conners, Dustin Melton and Nick Potts are all injured, while Nils Priestley and Ben Aitchison are both returning from recent knocks, and allrounders Anuj Dal, Alex Hughes and middle-order batter Wayne Madsen are also out. Conor McKerr has played seven group games on loan but has been recalled by Surrey, meaning that Dernbach has made the same journey up to the East Midlands.Dominic Cork, Derbyshire’s T20 coach, said: “Jade’s experience in Twenty20 cricket speaks for itself, and he will give us a different option with the ball. Our young bowlers have performed brilliantly so far, and George Scrimshaw and Fynn Hudson-Prentice will be able to learn even more working with a seasoned pro in Jade.”With the injuries we have in the squad and Conor returning down South, Jade will come straight into our squad to face Worcestershire and I’d like to thank Alec Stewart and Surrey for working with us to arrange this loan.”

The Liverpool centre-back was taken aback when a journalist asked him whether he would stay at Anfield beyond this season. "What a direct question," Van Dijk replied. The journalist wasn't done though, quickly following up by telling the 33-year-old that Real Madrid are looking for defenders owing to injuries to Eder Militao and David Alaba.

"Are they? Really? But they have [Antonio] Rudiger there," Van Dijk replied.

"As I already said, my full focus is on the next game against Man City and that’s it."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Van Dijk has been allowed to enter the final 12 months of his Liverpool deal but according to the Reds' ex-CEO Peter Moore, the club is "working feverishly" to get an extension done. Losing the Dutch international would be a big blow to Arne Slot given his talent and experience, providing the steel in defence that helped yield Premier League and Champions League success under Jurgen Klopp.

Tudo igual no placar.

QUASE!!!!!

VOLTA MOVIMENTADA!

Logo no começo do segundo tempo, as duas equipes não deram sossego e continuaram a pressão. Dessa forma, no primeiro lance da segunda etapa, Rodrigão mandou rente à trave.

TUDO IGUAL NOVAMENTE…

2 a 2 no Moisés Lucarelli.

VIRADA!

Contudo, o Náutico conseguiu a virada.

CORRENDO ATRÁS DO PREJUÍZO!

Medical imminent as West Brom hijack QPR move for 25 y/o defender

West Brom have hijacked another Championship club's move for a 25-year-old defender and a medical is now imminent, according to an exciting update from reliable journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

West Brom transfer news

The Baggies are preparing for their opening game of the 2024/25 season this weekend, with a trip to Queens Park Rangers kicking off their campaign on Saturday lunchtime. Carlos Corberan's men will again be hoping to finish in the playoff positions, at worst, with automatic promotion the primary aim.

For that to happen, some more new signings will be needed before the summer transfer window reaches its conclusion, and a number of players have been linked with switches to the Hawthorns in recent times. One such figure is midfielder Besard Sabovic, with a formal offer already made for the 26-year-old.

Meanwhile, Standard Liege and Northern Ireland youngster Isaac Price has been touted as an exciting long-term option for West Brom, as he potentially looks to seal a return to England this summer. He moved to Belgium from Everton last year, having spent 12 years in the youth system at Goodison Park before deciding a move abroad was best for his development.

Leicester City attacker Thomas Cannon is also being looked at by the Baggies, according to recent claims, with the 21-year-old unlikely to earn regular playing time for the Foxes, following their return to the Premier League. A loan move looks most likely, allowing him a year to hone his skills elsewhere.

West Brom hijack move for 25-year-old

According to Sky Italy's Di Marzio, West Brom are now set to pip QPR for the free signing of left-back Gianluca Frabotta, having hijacked the Championship rival's move for him, adding an extra edge to their weekend clash.

The 25-year-old is expected to undergo a medical in London on Tuesday, sealing a 3-year move from Juventus and strengthening the Baggies' left-back options in the process. His contract is ready to sign on the dotted line and his agent has also travelled to complete the deal, while Juve will keep a 20 per cent sell-on clause in his contract.

It looks as though the Baggies have won the race to sign the Italian, in what could be an exciting piece of business for Corberan. Frabotta is at an ideal age to come in and hit the ground running, possessing enough experience but also still having plenty of years ahead of him in his career.

He has made 18 appearances for Juventus despite spending most of his career on various loans, which says a lot about his pedigree, and he has also been capped for Italy at four different youth age groups at international level.

The fact that West Brom are beating another Championship team to the left-back's services makes it all the more sweet, and the hope is that he comes straight in as a key squad player, providing much-needed depth in his position at the same time.

Tottenham Hotspur have been in terrible form over the last month or so with Ange Postecoglou's side winning only twice since the start of November. Chelsea, on the other hand, have been great this season and sit pretty in second place in the Premier League standings. However, Maresca has claimed that Tottenham will hold the upper hand when Chelsea travel to north London on Sunday.

Speaking to the media, Maresca said: "First of all, the fans are going to be there, no doubt. And second, we are not favourite, absolutely not. They are playing European competition, like us, we are there. But not because we are second in the table, we are favourite, absolutely not."

Chelsea are being touted as potential Premier League title rivals for Liverpool after their strong start to the season, similar to Tottenham at the start of 2023-24 before they eventually faltered and failed to even finish in the top four. Maresca has claimed that they are not looking at Spurs' collapse as they prepare for the rest of the season.

He said: "I don’t think we need Ange’s experience or Tottenham’s experience to understand things can change quick. Every season in football, in England, in Spain, in Italy, every country, things can change quick."

Records tumble as Sunzamul Islam leads Rajshahi's demolition of Barisal

The match ended before lunch on the second day, with Junaid Siddique’s 43 the best individual batting effort

Mohammad Isam30-Mar-2021

Sunzamul Islam had a match haul of 10 for 33•Walton

Sunzamul Islam’s record-breaking 10 for 33 and Player-of-the-Match Taijul Islam’s eight wickets sent Barisal Division crashing to an innings-and-nine-run defeat before lunch on the second day of their National Cricket League match against Rajshahi Division in Savar on Tuesday. Barisal were bowled out for 82 and 60, after electing to bat first, while Rajshahi managed to put up 151 in their only hit as they went on to record their first win of the season.Stat highlights
Barisal’s match aggregate of 142 runs is the lowest for a team in a match in Bangladesh’s first-class history. The record had stood in the name of BCB Academy, who had scored a total of 167 runs against the visiting Zimbabweans in 2009. In the Bangladesh domestic circuit, Chittagong Division’s 180 against Rajshahi in 2011 was the previous lowest. Sunzamul’s 10 for 33 is the most economical haul of ten or more wickets in Bangladesh’s first-class history, topping the earlier mark by Ruyel Miah of Sylhet Division, from two seasons ago – Miah had 13 for 65 against Chittagong.Barisal’s collapse on the second morning – they began the day on 23 for 1 and got to 53 for 2 – was dramatic, as they lost their last eight wickets for only seven runs in 10.3 overs. The wickets were shared between Sunzamul and Taijul – the former taking 6 for 15, to go with his 4 for 18 in the first innings, and the latter picking up 4 for 23 for a match haul of 8 for 62.Despite the ten-for, Sunzamul didn’t get the match award as Taijul’s 37 from 42 balls – from No. 10 – in a moderate batting effort by his team made a difference to the outcome of the game. The day started with Sunzamul removing nightwatchman Kamrul Islam Rabbi in the ninth over of the morning. At that stage, Barisal looked set to catch up with Rajshahi’s 69-run lead, but then Sunzamul bowled Moinul Islam Sohel for 28, and that triggered the slide. Captain Fazle Rabbi, Salman Hossain, Sohag Gazi and Tanvir Islam all fell to Sunzamul, and Taijul accounted for the rest.In their batting innings, Rajshahi were well served by Tanzid Hasan, the opener, and Junaid Siddique, the No. 3 batsman, apart from Taijul. Hasan scored a run-a-ball 36 with five fours and a six, while Siddique hit 43 in close to two-and-a-half hours – that was the best individual score in the match. Gazi picked up 6 for 65, his first five-wicket haul in three seasons.

Even better than Wan-Bissaka: West Ham looking at signing "incredible" RB

Despite having Vladimir Coufal at the club, a loyal servant who joined the club in 2020, West Ham United seem keen to acquire another right-sided full-back this summer, to replace the 31-year-old Czech Republic international.

One man on their list is Manchester United's Aaron Wan-Bissaka, however, talks seem to be on hold currently as United also look to strengthen in the right-back department, before allowing Wan-Bissaka to leave the club.

Vladimir Coufal.

However, West Ham won't just sit around waiting, as they start eyeing other potential options, looking to complete their new-look backline, already adding Max Kilman from Wolves, and looking to add another central defender alongside a right back.

West Ham transfer news

According to reports from the Telegraph, West Ham are eyeing a move for Newcastle defender, Kieran Trippier. As the Premier League is set to kick off next week, the Hammers are looking to move quickly in acquiring a new right back for their squad.

However, the reports state West Ham are yet to receive an answer on Trippier's availability, amid interest from Saudi Arabia for the 33-year-old right back.

brennan-johnson-kieran-trippier-tottenham-opinion

Trippier made 39 appearances in all competitions last season for Newcastle, scoring one goal, providing 11 assists, and contributing to 11 clean sheets in his 3,079 minutes played, often wearing the captain's armband too.

Trippier vs Wan-Bissaka comparison

Wan-Bissaka, who seems to have been the Hammers' number one target at right-back this summer, made 30 appearances for United in all competitions, providing three assists, and contributing to five clean sheets in his 2,411 minutes played.

The 26-year-old defender is often lauded for his defensive abilities, receiving the nickname "spider" due to his long legs and lunged tackles. Some – including Tottenham's James Maddison – have even said he is the best 1v1 defender in the Premier League.

These metrics show the huge improvement Trippier would make at West Ham by replacing Coufal, and shows just why Eddie Howe has praised Trippier as "incredible" in the past.

Having a player like the Englishman at right-back adds creativity to the side, averaging 2.62 key passes in the league last season, and averaging 2.39 key passes per 90 in the last 365 days, which ranks in the top 3% for full-backs on on the continent for this metric.

This, combined with the 6.33 progressive passes per 90, and nearly double the number of passes attempted per 90 with 85.9 per 90, compared to the 47.8 of Coufal and 49.8 of Wan-Bissaka, shows his involvement levels in the game, and how he aids build up and chance creation for his team.

All of this, without losing the defensive actions, as Trippier completes 2.30 tackles per 90, 1.65 blocks per 90, and wins 1.25 aerials per 90, beating both Wan-Bissaka and Coufal in these metrics, despite also having such prominent roles in the attacking phase.

The main drawback on a move for Trippier is that he is even older than Coufal at 33-years-old, and would therefore be another short-term move, whereas a move for Wan-Bissaka (26-years-old) would prove a longer-term buy, and could be a cornerstone in that West Ham side for the present and future.
